Every Purnima and during other major festivals, a grand procession of the Linga Bhairavi Utsavamurti (a consecrated form of Devi) happens in the Dhyanalinga Parikrama. Devi begins her majestic walk with an offering to Trimurthi. She then progresses in all splendor, lit by the rising full moon and heralded by conches, trumpets and resounding drumbeats. Men decked as traditional warriors, with faces reflecting the flickering torch flames, carry red flags and fire poles and are led by a group performing Kalaripayattu – the ancient Indian martial arts.
Every Purnima is celebrated at Linga Bhairavi with an elaborate abhishekam and a vibrant offering of music and dance. Devi takes on different forms during the pooja, thereby creating an explosion of energy with songs extoling Devi at her fullest glory. Devi remains in flaming crimson for the next 24 hours bestowing infinite grace to her devotees.
